Initiative reinforces the construction company’s commitment to education and personal development of workers
Lotus, a construction company recognized for innovation and social commitment, has launched an initiative that is transforming the routine at construction sites: the implementation of community libraries accessible to all employees. The project aims to encourage the habit of reading, promoting education and personal development within the work environment.
The Lotus Institute implemented the “Canteiro do Saber” (Site of Knowledge), which are libraries on our construction sites, to bring culture and knowledge to our workers. Lotus Cidade reinforces its commitment to society by encouraging not only reading but also book donations.
The idea stems from the belief that knowledge should be democratized and that literature has the power to change realities. “Despite the difficulties, community libraries persist. And by persisting, they teach us a powerful lesson: access to literature is not a luxury, but a right. A book, in the right hands, can open worlds, transform trajectories, and change destinies,” stated writer Djamila Ribeiro in an article in Folha de S. Paulo.
Inspired by this idea, Lotus believes that every book shared on construction sites can create new opportunities and positively impact the lives of its employees.
Ruy Hernandez, one of the founding partners of Lotus, reinforces the company’s commitment to the well-being and growth of its team:
“Our goal goes beyond building projects. We want to build a better future for everyone who is part of our story. Libraries on construction sites are a way to provide access to culture and knowledge—essential elements for the personal and professional development of our employees.”
Mara Moura Sá, a site inspector at Lotus, highlights the practical importance and positive impact of the library:
“At the 402 Norte construction site, it has been great—especially during lunch breaks, when most people go to the library. It’s a wonderful project for those who like to read and greatly helps with knowledge and relaxation.”
“This excellent work here at the site has been an encouragement to me and many others,” comments Nathanoel Conceição Lima, a painter at Lotus. “The library is important; it provides learning opportunities during breakfast and lunch breaks. Besides, reading improves mental quality, helps psychologically, and contributes to our daily lives,” the professional adds.
The Lotus initiative has received strong engagement from employees, who find in the libraries a space for learning and inspiration. The available books were purchased by the company itself and also donated by staff, reinforcing the spirit of collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the organization.
